Sorry to disappoint you. Though it's entirely possible Vlad III could have been, there's just no confirmation and no real proof. Just one man inspired to write a piece of fiction on his holidays, nothing more.

So you consider me the villain? Interesting. Why do you think that? What about me would make such a good gothic fiend? Is it solely because I'm a vampire or do you consider how I act to be morally wrong? Perhaps even evil? I have never considered Dracula to be an overly evil character, he simply is what he is.

it's a defining point of gothic novels like most prominently frankenstein that just because someone is the villain, he doesn't necessarily have to be evil. or act out of evil

I do like Gothic literature for that reason, besides the mood and the tone, it has a unique view on it's monsters. They're either tragic or understandable. The idea of evil being a motivator for anyone strikes me as a terrible concept.
